Hydrogen Sulfide is caused by a sulfate reducing bacteria shown in the photo.
The gas smells very close to the smell of rotten eggs and is very objectionable.
In high levels, it is considered noxious. It is a very volatile contaminant and any observation of H²S should be a point of concern for water users. |
